Young students explore future mobile technologies at evolaris
In the course of the Take Tech action week, an initiative of the Styrian Business Promotion Agency to promote technical- and science-related professions among the young generation, evolaris opened its doors and enabled behind the scene insights for students.
Around 20 high school students from HAK Grazbachgasse and HTL Kaindorf participated within two interactive events and immersed into the world of evolaris research- and development activities. The main focus was laid on augmented reality and data glass solutions. After a brief introduction to the overall work areas of evolaris, examples of practical applications regarding augmented reality and mobile solutions for smartphones, tablets and data glasses were presented.
The students showed great interest especially for the ongoing project “smart ski goggles” which enables winter-athletes to obtain live-information on e.g. weather and snow conditions, waiting time at lifts and special restaurant offers, via a mini-display which is integrated within the ski-goggles. During a short brainstorming session students were motivated to develop their own creative concept-ideas for the realisation of data-glass solutions.
The definite highlight of the study trip was the presentation of demo-applications for Google Glass which are being developed by evolaris, as well as the unique chance to literally test Google Glass on site. The young students did not have any difficulties in handling the new device and therefore demonstrated their readiness and capability of dealing with mobile technologies and services to be expected in the near future.
